BENJAMIN, Raymond G. “George”
of Horseheads, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at the age of 84. Raymond was born June 21, 1932, a son to the late Clinton and Madge Vargason Benjamin. Raymond is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 64 years, Beverly J. Howard; daughter, Judy Difasi and her children, Nick (Stephanie), Jenelle (Ryan); sons, Raymond (Sherry) Benjamin and their sons, Bob (Danielle), Jeff, and Steven (Shontae), and Bryan (Patti) Benjamin and their children, Dan, Josh (Kelly), Katie (Mark), William, and Andrew; great grandchildren, Blake, Jax, Axl, Rafe, Jase, Wyatt, Logan, Miles, Owen and Gavin; brothers, Richard Benjamin, Edmund (Charlotte) Benjamin and Clinton (Mary) Benjamin; sisters, Joanne (Dennis) Dyer and Theresa Smith; numerous nieces, nephews and dear family friend Sandy Hoffman. He was predeceased by sister Joyce Gyles. He served his country honorably with the US Navy on the USS Albany and was employed by Tompkins County BOCES, as an instructor for precision machining. Raymond, affectionately known as Dad or Grandpa loved his family. His true belief was always to support his family’s challenges and dreams. He was their rock to stand on, shoulder to lean on, and never too busy to give his time, wisdom, and energy. His passions included spending time with family, teaching others what he knew, making memories with his grandchildren at the cottage, woodworking in his shop, playing games, and doing puzzles. He has been a true inspiration to all who knew him. The family will welcome relatives and friends to Sullivan’s Funeral Home, 365 E. Franklin St., at Rt. 13, Horseheads, NY on Friday, November 11, 2016 from 3 - 6 PM. Ray’s Funeral Service will be held at the Funeral Home on Saturday, 12 noon. He will be laid to rest in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Odessa, NY with military honors immediately following.
