CONKLIN, Bert K. Jr.
of Horseheads, passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at the age of 69. Bert was born May 23, 1947, a son to the late Bert K. and Elizabeth E. Townsend Conklin. Bert is survived by his fiancé, Dianne Layton of Elmira, NY; children, Bert (Christina Ash) Conklin, Brent (Angela) Conklin, Bradley (Shelly) Conklin, Zachary (Beth McLaughlin) Conklin all of Horseheads, NY, Jareth (Annie) Conklin and Alex Conklin both of Elmira, NY; grandchildren, Madison, Connor, Jacie, Zach, Jayden, Brooke, Triton and Shaylyn; sister, Joan Crowley of Horseheads, NY, and niece, Kimberly Weaver of FL; extended family members and a host of caring friends. He was predeceased by his niece Kelly. Bert served his country honorably with the US Marine Corps during Vietnam and was a union meat cutter. Bert belonged to the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 803 and was a member of the Amalgamated Meats Cutters Union. His passions included spending time with family, making memories with his grandchildren, cooking, fishing, hunting, and teaching others what he knew. The family will welcome relatives and friends to Sullivan’s Funeral Home, 365 E. Franklin St., at Rt. 13, Horseheads, NY on Friday, November 18, 2016 from 4-7 PM. Bert’s Funeral Service will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church, Elmira, NY on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 1PM. He will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery with military honors immediately following.
