Genevieve Veronica (Zelasko) Joy
Horseheads, NY passed away at home on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at the age of 92.
Jennie was born in Uniontown, PA, the tenth child of Albert Zelasko and Maria Glista Zelasko. She was fiercely proud of her Polish heritage and Catholic faith, with a special devotion to Our Blessed Lady and St. Joseph. Jennie will be sadly missed by her husband, J. Roger Joy, with whom she shared 68 years of marriage, her son Ralph (Jane) Joy, her daughter Marianne (Bob) Briggs, granddaughters Katie (Brian) Rosinski and Brienne (Ray) Michels, and great grandchildren Cole, Reese, and Erin Rosinski and Raymond Joseph (RJ) and Genevieve Rebecca Michels (arriving fall 2018). She is also survived by the many nieces and nephews who were familial reminders of the loving ties to her predeceased siblings: Walter, John, Mary, Ann, Agnes, Andrew, Nellie, Joseph, and Helen, and siblings-in-law Patricia and Tom Joy. Jennie was a member of St. Mary Our Mother church for 50 years, and can be remembered as the lovely little lady with beautiful white hair who sat near the front of the church at 10:30 Mass every Sunday, accompanied by her husband Roger. She laundered and ironed the altar linens for 40 years, and participated in choir, cursillo, and homebound visitations. She also volunteered for many years at St. Joseph's Hospital in Elmira. Jennie lived her life true to the acronym of her name, JOY: Jesus first--Others second--Yourself third. There will be no prior calling hours. Please join the family for Jennie's Resurrection Mass on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at 10 AM at St. Mary Our Mother Church, 816 W. Broad St., Horseheads, NY.
